S.O.A.P. Matthew 15:8-9

S – Isaiah prophesied about Pharisees and religious leaders. “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.”

O – The prophet Isaiah criticized hypocrites. Jesus applied Isaiah’s words to those religious leaders. The Pharisees knew a lot about God, but they didn’t know God. When we claim to honor God while our heart is far from Him, our worship means nothing. It is not enough to act religious. Our actions and our attitudes must be sincere. If they are not, Isaiah’s words also describe us.

A – We can spend our time reading and learning about the laws of the Bible and God, but if we do not take what we read to heart, and allow it to transform our actions and attitudes, then it is all pointless. We must meet God and allow His Holy Spirit to dwell within us.

P – Dear Lord, thank you for filling me with your Holy Spirit. Thank you for the change you are making within me. I pray I can continue to submit to you in the areas I struggle… patience, irritability, defensiveness, etc. Please free me from these sinful traits and fill me with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
