Matthew 10: Jesus sends out the Twelve

Read Matthew 10

S.O.A.P. Matthew 10

(Scripture. Observation. Application. Prayer)

S – In Matthew 10, Jesus is speaking to His 12 disciples, preparing them to go out and spread the Good News to the world without Him.

O – Jesus is preparing his disciples for many different obstacles they will face because of their faithfulness to God. He gives them authority to heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead. But He warns them He is “sending them out like sheep among wolves”. He prepares them for when they are arrested and tells them not to worry about what to say in their defense, but that the Holy Spirit will speak through them when the time comes.

A – Jesus speaking to His 12 disciples at this time , but if we choose to be, we are also called to be His disciples. These are His instructions to me as a disciple for His kingdom. Jesus warns us though, when we are spreading the Good News of the Gospel, we will have enemies. We as "sheep" will fall prey to the "wolves" but the Holy Spirit will defeat our enemies when the time comes. I can use the words and warnings Jesus speaks in Matthew 10 to guide me as I spread the good news to the world.

P – Dear God, thank you for providing your disciples with instructions and warnings when they spread the Good News. Help me to never ignore the prompting of your Holy Spirit to tell others about you. I love and thank you, Amen.
