Matthew 8: Jesus Calms the Storm

Read Matthew 8

S.O.A.P. Matthew 8:26-27

(Scripture. Observation. Application. Prayer.)

S – “He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ then He got up and rebuked the winds and waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

O – Even though the disciples had seen Jesus perform many miracles, when they faced their own trial or storm, they turned to fear and panic rather than faith and trust. God not only has the power to calm the winds and waves, but also has the power to calm out hearts. Jesus is always willing to help us – all we have to do is ask.

A – It’s easy to begin to doubt what God is willing to do in the midst of our trials. We question His power and often try to control things ourselves. I tend to struggle with my mindset and moods as well as fear of generational curses (history repeating). But I refuse to move forward allowing the enemy to put doubt in me that Jesus is bigger and more powerful than any trial I face. He is able to calm my mind and my heart. I will submit myself daily to His will and trust Him in all I do and where He leads me.

P – Dear Lord, help me to continue to trust you to give me a sound mind, a mind and heart that bears good fruits. Break down the wall I have been working to get around for years. Tear it down and bring me out on the other side filled with your grace, love, acceptance, servant heart, and eternal perspective. Thank you Jesus! Amen.
