Matthew 2: Who am I CHOOSING to follow?

Read: Matthew 2

S.O.A.P. Focus: Matthew 2:12

(Scripture. Observation. Application. Prayer)

S – “Having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they (the magi or wise men) returned to their country by another route.”

O – Although the King of the land, Herod, had ordered them to return to him with the location of baby Jesus, their fear of the Lord was greater. They refused to obey the king and chose to obey God and protect His Son.

A – Before finding Jesus, I had my own plans for my life. I would follow the directions or advice of others because I was not confident in my own ability to make "the right" decisions. I did not have the Holy Spirit nor wise counsel to seek. But once I found Jesus, I (like the wise men) became more focused on the direction God was leading me versus the world or people in it. Although it can be scary not to follow the “laws of the land” or guidance from another person, upon finding Jesus your eyes will be opened to true wise counsel versus worldly knowledge or advice. Looking back, I realize it was my personal CHOICE to not follow the Holy Spirits guiding, not lack of resources or opportunity.

P – Dear Lord, thank you for continually growing inside me. Thank you for giving me discernment to see the difference between your leading me versus the worlds deception. I pray you continue to grow me in this area through your supernatural peace, that I may never have to question whether it’s you or the world leading me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
